One of the culinary experiences that I have ever had. Starting with greeter at the entrance. Made me feel welcomed at the door. Cliff my waiter was most impressive. Excellent service with a constant smile. The food was awesome. Try the stuffed jerk grouper. You can't go wrong with anything that you choose.
We had such a wonderful time! The food was great, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere was fun! The hush puppies were the best we’ve ever had! They were moist and had an awesome honey flavor to them. We shared the she crab Soup that was wonderful. It had a nice sherry flavor to it. Plus they brought extra sherry out if we wanted it. We also shared the fried oysters, which were nice and crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The muscles with the parmesan cream sauce is to die for! We’re taking our oysters and dipping them into the cream sauce. The Chilean Seabass croquette was perfectly broiled, and was very moist and tasty. We definitely will be going back!
My wife and had a great time and a fantastic diner. The quality and quantity of their food is outstanding. Everyone we talked to were focused on making sure our visit was memorable. Two of the owners visited our table to make sure everything was fantastic. Our server was also great, but cannot remember her name.

The owner is present, really cares about his business, and is getting his son on the track to continue the path of 4 generations! That is pure value of a business in my eyes. Service was a bit pushy on promoting the business on social media and rate on google, but it was ok. Food was delicious!! Plentiful and well presented. We liked broiled fish the best although they are big on their fried fish. Value for money is perfect given the portions. Thank you very much! We’ll be back next time in town!
Hyman's was recommended by my son-in-law and I am so glad he did! The food was exceptional, the service was great, thank you Cassie, and the atmosphere was amazing! It's no wonder the celebrities love it here! This is great for family, friends or a nice romantic date. The lobster rolls are beyond delicious! The hush puppies are the best we've had. It's a two hour drive for us, and I will do it again in a heartbeat. A+++!
This place was extremely busy, which is always a good sign. The bar area is fairly small, but that’s where I ended up eating and it turned out to be a great experience. The bar service was excellent—very attentive staff, good service, and a fun atmosphere. The menu is enormous, so there’s a ton of selection. From what I saw coming out of the kitchen, everything looked like solid, high-quality seafood. I ordered the broiled seafood plate which included shrimp, whole flounder, a crab cake, Brussels sprouts, and croquettes. Everything on the plate was excellent and well prepared. Overall, this just feels like a classic Charleston seafood restaurant that does things right. Expect to spend around $40–$50 per person, which is reasonable for the quality and portion sizes. I would definitely recommend it and I’ll be back next time I’m in Charleston.

My family has such deep roots with this establishment—my parents even had their first date here, and members of my family were part of the team long before the current generation. It’s a place filled with wonderful memories! 🏙️❤️ As a Charleston native of Gullah Geechee heritage, I always look forward to the local flavors. The Red Rice was a unique experience; it has a lovely Spanish-style (Charleston Red Rice is distinctive) flair with a touch of chili powder that was interesting to try! However, the absolute showstopper was the Fried Fish! 🏆🔥 It is clear that the talented chefs in the kitchen have mastered a recipe that has stood the test of time. The value is also incredible—the portion was so generous that it provided several delicious meals even after I returned home to Atlanta. 🍽️🥣 The service staff was incredibly kind and welcoming. I also had the pleasure of meeting the next generation of the family. As a U.S. Air Force Veteran born and raised in this beautiful city, I am always proud to see our local businesses thriving and evolving. I believe there is so much beauty in our shared history, and I look forward to seeing how the new leadership continues to embrace the diverse community that has supported this landmark for so many years. 🇺🇸🎖️ It is heartening to see the restaurant’s commitment to supporting mainstream nonprofits and the community. My visit to Hyman’s seafood was truly unforgettable. From the moment I walked in, I was welcomed by a hostess whose warm smile and gracious Southern hospitality instantly made me feel at home. I ordered the glazed Grouper with Brussels sprouts and every bite was delicious comforting, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. The atmosphere was just as wonderful: inviting, relaxed, and filled with friendly, courteous people who made the space feel alive with genuine kindness. What made the experience especially meaningful was our server Charlie. She was incredibly pleasant, offered thoughtful recommendations, and took the time to share a genuine conversation with us. It didn’t feel like dining out it felt like sitting around the table at home with family. Hyman’s seafood in Charleston, South Carolina isn’t just a place to eat; it’s a place where you feel seen, welcomed, and cared for. Without a doubt, it earns five shining stars from me.
The food was great! The oysters were fresh & the drinks were made terrific! Our server was named Gordon and he was very attentive! Also, it was great to have the owner come around and greet and speak to everyone! Once you come and visit you can understand why this establishment has lasted so long! Also while you're there stop next door at the general store and pick up a few great souvenirs or try a scoop of the delicious ice cream!
